Sen. Bong Revilla Jr. appeals to President for humanitarian consideration regarding ‘It’s Showtime’ suspension

Senator Ramon “Bong” Revilla Jr. has urged President Ferdinand “Bongbong” Marcos Jr. to reconsider the decision made by the Movie Television Review and Classification Board (MTRCB) in denying the request to lift the suspension on the variety show ‘It’s Showtime.’

The senator emphasized the severe consequences this suspension has had on the livelihoods of numerous workers.

The MTRCB recently rejected the motions for reconsideration filed by GMA Network Inc. and ABS-CBN Corporation regarding the suspension of ‘It’s Showtime.’ The suspension was imposed following a segment in which hosts Ryan Bang, Vice Ganda, and Ion Perez were accused of engaging in indecent or inappropriate behavior in the presence of children.

Senator Revilla, in a statement, stressed that regardless of the merits of the case, the MTRCB should take into account the well-being of all the show’s staff and crew who were not responsible for the cited reason behind the suspension.

Many of these workers operate under a “no work, no pay” arrangement, and if the suspension is upheld, they will be left without a source of income to provide for their families.

Senator Revilla reminded GMA Network and ABS-CBN that they have the option to file an appeal with the Office of the President within 15 days, suggesting that humanitarian considerations should be taken into account when reviewing the appeal.

In his statement, Revilla expressed hope that valuable lessons have been learned and that it is essential to differentiate between individual actions and the collective workforce, emphasizing the importance of not penalizing those who work diligently every day to make a living.
