On December 23, Metro Manila Film Festival 2023 Best Actor awardee Cedrick Juan highlighted his research for his role in the highly awarded film GomBurZa.
At the premiere night for GomBurZa, which LionhearTV covered, Juan remarked that he read articles about the history of GomBurZa.
“Pinaka-pinaggamitan namin ng mga basis namin ay like sila. Ako personally, nag-research ako sa mga article na ginagawa ni Sir Ambet Ocampo, ni Prof Xiao Chua, nila Fr. Rene, Fr. Schumacher. And at the same time kung ano pang mga available na account sa social media. Siyempre nandoon ‘yung pagpa-fact check.
“Pero, tama eh, for sure ang magiging pinaka ball ng pelikula ay ‘yung mag mas generate pa siya ng questions.”
He also excitedly emphasized the conversations about their period film after the MMFF 2023.
“For sure, after this Metro Manila Film Festival, ‘yun ang pinaka masarap na mangyari ay mayroon pang for sure na ibang account na lalabas, marami pang–pag-uusapan pa nila at isang magandang celebration ‘yun ng Philippine history kasi nagsimula sila panood, kung saan nagsimula natin ilahad ‘yung mga Filipino.Â
“At hindi sana natatapos pa ‘yung pagkilala ng history natin sa pelikulang ‘to. Sana isa lang ‘to sa mas maraming pagkilala sa kanila.”
His co-star, Enchong Dee, praised Juan’s performance for his role in GomBurZa.
“Cedrick did a brilliant job. I mean, come on.Â
“Honestly, when I saw this–number one–I’m very grateful to be part of this film. And at the same time, to see Cedrick achieve his dreams, [and] he waited for this for so long, and now, worth the wait, di ba?”
‘Gomburza’ stars Dante Rivero, Cedrick Juan, and Enchong Dee with Piolo Pascual, Elijah Canlas, Khalil Ramos, Jaime Fabregas, Tommy Alejandrino, Nanding Josef, Ketchup Eusebio, Carlos Siguion-Reyna, Sheenly Gener, and Elora Espano.
The awards GomBurZa won in the MMFF2023 Gabi ng Parangal are Best Sound, Best Production Design, Best Cinematography, Gatpuno Antonio Villegas Cultural Award, Best Director, Best Actor, and 2nd Best Picture.
Under the direction of MMFF2023 Best Director Pepe Diokno, GomBurZa continues its run at cinemas nationwide until January 7.
