Kapuso actor Royce Cabrera recently revealed that he almost gave up on his showbiz career before landing his breakthrough role. In an emotional conversation on GTV’s ‘Lutong Bahay’ with hosts Mikee Quintos and Kuya Dudut, Royce shared the challenges he faced and the pivotal moment that led him to continue pursuing acting.
During the episode, Royce opened up about his struggles in 2018 and 2019, shortly after graduating from college. He felt like his career was going nowhere.
“Parang walang nangyayari,” he admitted. “Muntik ko na talagang i-give up ‘yung showbiz.”
At that low point, Royce decided to seek a sign to determine if he should keep going. His turning point came with the role of Ace Policarpio in the film F#@bbois* for the prestigious Cinemalaya Film Festival.
“Ang sign ko noon, ‘pag nakuha ako doon sa lead role sa F#@bbois,* laban ako. Pero ‘pag hindi ako nakuha, [wala na],” he explained.
If he hadn’t been cast, Royce was prepared to move to Singapore to work in a field related to his degree. Fortunately for him, he got the role, and the film marked the beginning of his promising career in the industry.
Royce acknowledged that the project was particularly challenging due to its intimate scenes, but he was all-in for the role. “Talagang all-out kami doon. Intense,” he said, revealing that he kept the project a secret from his family due to the sensitive nature of the story.
Now, Royce’s career is on an upward trajectory. He is set to star in ‘Green Bones’, the official entry for the 50th Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF), directed by Zig Dulay. The film features an all-star cast led by Dennis Trillo and Ruru Madrid, with Royce joining A-list actors like Alessandra de Rossi, Wendell Ramos, Michael de Mesa, Ronnie Lazaro, and Kylie Padilla.
