Kapuso head writer Suzette Doctolero is asking viewers to give ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’ a chance to unfold its narrative before casting judgment, following strong reactions to the show’s recent plot twists—particularly the string of character deaths that have stirred both outrage and debate online.

Responding to the growing criticisms, Doctolero clarified that the new series is not merely a continuation of the past Encantadia installments but a broader storytelling endeavor:
“Kasama sa mga changes ang title: Encantadia Chronicles, hindi Encantadia na lang. Ibig sabihin ito ay kalipunan ng sari-saring kwento ng mga pangyayari, lugar, at mga characters mula sa ating Encantadia Universe.”
Doctolero thanked fans for their passion, noting that their emotional responses are proof of how deeply they care about the fantasy franchise. She admitted being both surprised and touched by the strong reactions—especially during the second week of episodes.
In her post, she also addressed the depiction of Devas—the Encantadia equivalent of heaven—explaining that while the place currently seems limited, it will be further explored as the story progresses.
“Hayaan ninyo muna kaming magkwento. Salamat.”
As of writing, 14 characters have died within the first 10 episodes of ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’. The loss of beloved characters such as Cassandra (Michelle Dee), Lira (Mikee Quintos), and Mira (Kate Valdez) has particularly drawn backlash from longtime fans.
Some netizens voiced their disappointment online: “Killing Lira and Mira was the biggest injustice Encantadia ever committed,” one wrote. “You could’ve written them off with flying colors. Their unjustifiable and questionable deaths are what we are so furious about,” another added.
Doctolero, however, defended the creative decision by emphasizing the stakes involved in this new chapter: “Seryoso ang war at invasion this time. May at stake. Patay kung patay. For the first time in 20 years, nagawa rin. Na totoong may namatay. Salamat sa mga nakaunawa. Avisala eshma!”
‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’ serves as a spin-off from the 2016 reboot of ‘Encantadia’, itself based on the 2005 original. The new series focuses on the next generation of Sang’gre led by Bianca Umali (Terra), Kelvin Miranda (Adamus), Faith Da Silva (Flamarra), and Angel Guardian (Deia)—as well as the ongoing legacies of Danaya and Pirena.
