‘Posthouse’: Nikolas Red’s directorial debut unleashes a new breed of Psychological horror

A cursed film. A haunted family legacy. And a monster that won’t stay silent.

Viva Films and Evolve Studios present ‘Posthouse,’ a psychological horror film that marks the feature directorial debut of Nikolas Red, in collaboration with his brother Mikhail Red—acclaimed director of Deleter and Lilim—who serves as creative producer. Starring Sid Lucero and Bea Binene, this chilling tale follows the restoration of an old film that unleashes a dark force tied to a haunted past.

‘Posthouse’ centers on Cyril, a troubled film editor in a crumbling post-production facility founded by his estranged father, Edd. Cyril has long been haunted by the childhood trauma of his mother Judy’s unsolved murder and the disturbing supernatural encounter that surrounded it. Years later, he’s still struggling to hold his life together, weighed down by his inner demons and a fractured home life.

Amid the chaos, Cyril finds refuge in his work and in guiding his daughter, Rea, a passionate film student. Though they work together, Cyril and Rea remain emotionally distant due to their strained relationship. But things begin to shift when a strange package of reels leads them to a project: restoring the silent film ‘Ang Manananggal.’

But what begins as an act of restoration soon turns into a sinister resurrection.

As they piece together the vintage reels on an old Moviola machine, Cyril and Rea realize they’re missing a critical piece of the puzzle. Unsettling phenomena also begin to unfold—strange apparitions begin to manifest, reels vanish and reappear, and people around them start dying. The deeper they go into the restoration, the more the film seems to bleed into reality. Cyril is forced to confront a dark presence he has long tried to forget—one that he has faced before.

Can they find the missing reel—and with it, the truth behind Judy’s murder—before the curse consumes them, too? In ‘Posthouse,’ they face not only the creature that shadows them, but also the monsters they’ve carried all along.

‘Posthouse’ marks a bold new venture for Nikolas Red, who has built an impressive body of work as an editor and writer. He earned acclaim for his editing on Deleter (2022), which won Best Editing at the Metro Manila Film Festival, and on Eerie (2018), another box-office horror hit. He also co-wrote Dead Kids (2019), the first-ever Filipino Netflix original film, while his debut short film, Putol (2021), premiered at the International Silent Film Festival Manila. ‘Posthouse’ is a major leap forward for Nikolas as he takes on his first feature as director—bringing with him a precise editorial eye and a deep understanding and passion of the horror genre.

Supporting him behind the scenes is his brother, Mikhail Red, serving as creative producer and bringing his signature vision and experience in crafting groundbreaking narratives. As one of the most acclaimed Filipino filmmakers of his generation, Mikhail gained international recognition with Birdshot (2016), which earned an award at the Tokyo International Film Festival and became the Philippines’ official submission to the 90th Academy Awards. He continued to make his mark with the box-office hits Eerie (2018) and Block Z (2020), as well as the landmark project, Dead Kids (2019). His horror film, Deleter, won big at the 2022 Metro Manila Film Festival—clinching Best Picture and becoming the highest-grossing horror film in Philippine history. His most recent feature, Lilim, premiered to rave reviews at the 54th International Film Festival Rotterdam.

Leading the cast as Cyril is Sid Lucero, one of the most compelling actors of his generation known for his intense and layered performances in both independent and mainstream films. Opposite him is Bea Binene in her standout role as Rea that showcases a more mature and emotionally grounded side of the young actress. Ryza Cenon, Rafa Siguion Reyna and Andrea del Rosario also join the cast, bringing their versatility to key roles that heighten the story.

With a powerhouse ensemble both on-screen and behind the camera, prepare for terror like no other—because once the reels start rolling, the nightmare begins. Catch ‘Posthouse’ in cinemas nationwide starting August 20.
