Marina Summers made history as the first transwoman to host the Miss Universe Philippines 2026 coronation night, but beyond the milestone, she also delivered a pointed message linking pageantry standards to the country’s political choices.

Hosting the finals night held at the SM Mall of Asia Arena on May 2, Summers emphasized how invested Filipinos are in pageants—and how that same level of discernment should apply to electing leaders.

“I understand how important this evening is for the people here at the arena and, of course, for those watching at home,” she said.

“The stakes are high, and everybody is understandably invested in this pageant.”

She then drew a direct comparison that quickly resonated online: “Let’s just hope we have the same standards when we elect our country’s future leaders.”

Summers later took to Instagram to reflect on her experience, expressing gratitude for being part of the historic event.

“Congratulations again to all the 50 remarkable women who displayed beauty, grace, and POWER. I’m the luckiest person because I get to share the stage with you all the entire night,” she wrote.

“Maraming salamat again to @themissuniverseph for seeing me! Thank you for giving me the chance to be part of herstory again!”

“Waking up today reading all your messages fills my heart with love! This is definitely one for the books!”

Despite criticism from some quarters, Summers maintained a positive outlook, focusing on the significance of representation and the overwhelming support she received.

Summers first rose to prominence as runner-up on Drag Race Philippines Season 1 and later gained international acclaim after competing in RuPaul’s ‘Drag Race UK vs the World’ Season 2.

Meanwhile, Bea Millan-Windorski of La Union was crowned as this year’s Miss Universe Philippines, closing a coronation night that blended glamour with a broader social message.
