“Wrath of the Titans” wreaks havoc in IMAX 3D (Opens March 29)

IMAX Corporation and Warner Bros. recently announced that the action adventure “Wrath of the Titans” will be released to IMAX 3D theatres in the Philippines simultaneously with the film’s opening in Digital 3D and regular theaters on Thursday, March 29.

The IMAX release of “Wrath of the Titans” will be digitally re-mastered into the image and sound quality of The IMAX 3D Experience with proprietary IMAX DMR (Digital Re-mastering) technology. The crystal-clear images coupled with IMAX’s customized theatre geometry and powerful digital audio create a unique environment that will make audiences feel as if they are in the movie.

Sam Worthington, Ralph Fiennes and Liam Neeson star once again as gods at war in “Wrath of the Titans,” under the direction of Jonathan Liebesman.

Because Liebesman wanted to bring what he calls the “grittiness and graininess” that can only be achieved by shooting on film, “Wrath of the Titans” has nonetheless been designed in every way for 3D. The filmmakers are using all the lessons they learned on “Clash of the Titans” to perfect the 3D immersion on this film. “We know what works and we know we have a lot more freedom to try certain things that we couldn’t do on the first one,” producer Basil Iwanyk explains. “`Wrath’ was always conceived as a 3D movie, so we have designed the sets, the shots, and the action sequences specifically to be experienced in 3D. The shots Jonathan came up with are going to incredible.”

With all the stunts and effects work, Iwanyk promises that the sequel will be bigger, better, bolder and with a stronger emphasis on character and story than the first film. “We took what we liked in the first movie—the spectacle, the visual effects, the world that we created—and I really blew that out in this movie,” he says. “It’s very rare in life that you have the opportunity to do something again with more resources and more support and, if you do, it’s only natural that you consider, ‘OK, what can we do better?’”

One prime example, he says, comes in the form of the fantastic creatures that feature prominently in the story. “We have Cyclops, which is going to be really cool and big, and we have the Minotaur, which is going to be spectacular,” Iwanyk desribes. “Our monster, the Titan Kronos, dwarfs the Kraken from the first film, so yes, the spectacle will be much bigger.”

“I think Kronos is gonna be about a hundred million times bigger than the Kraken, with big volcanic lava bombs flowing out of him,” Sam Worthington adds. “He’s going to be the literal definition of hell on earth.”

“`Wrath of the Titans,’” says producer Polly Johnsen, is “definitely bigger. It’s nonstop action and I think people are going to be really excited about what they see. In addition to that, I think we have a story that people are going to relate to and is very emotional. So, we have the best of both worlds in this film.”

Opening across the Philippines on March 29 in IMAX 3D, Digital 3D and regular theaters, “Wrath of the Titans” is distributed by Warner Bros. Pictures, a Warner Bros. Entertainment Company.
