Just over 5 months old, the love team of Alden Richards and Maine “Yaya Dub” Mendoza or AlDub is now considered by many as phenomenal. The tandem has been a hot topic not only in the local media but also internationally since its fandom achieved a record-breaking 41 million tweets on October 24.
Some call it the “accidental” love team and credit it for raising the ratings and earnings of GMA Network as a whole. AlDub pushed the ratings of its mother program, “Eat Bulaga”, to a whopping 50.8%, the highest so far, for 2015.
AlDub is now being touted as the new King and Queen of endorsements since they now have more than 10 TVCs as a tandem, aside from other TVCs on their own. All magazines where they are featured as cover are also sold out immediately and have had reprints to keep up with the demand.
The love team has a very strong presence on Twitter, where their biggest fan club (AlDub/MaiDen Nation) has more than 630K followers. AlDub hashtags are on the top of the Twitter’s Trending list daily and always achieve a minimum of more than a million tweets.
As for awards, the love team already received 9 awards as a love team including Most Popular Breakout Love Team of the Year from “EduKCircle Film and Television Awards”, German Moreno’s Power Tandem Awards at the “29th PMPC Star Awards for Television” and Breakthrough Performers of the Year from “ALIW Awards”.
AlDub’s first movie is a MMFF entry titled “My Bebe Love: #KiligPaMore” with Vic Sotto and Ai-Ai delas Alas.
