The Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) awards night last December 2015 became controversial due to some alleged discrepancies.
For example, the committee gave the “Best Original Theme Song” award to “Honor Thy Father” even though ‘Tao’ is not an original song but was recorded by Tessy Alfonso a.k.a. Sampaguita in 1970.

Prior to the awards night on December 26, 2015, the MMFF sent a letter to “Honor Thy Father” director Erik Matti, disqualifying the movie for the Best Picture Award. See the letter below:
This letter was answered by “Honor Thy Father” producer Dondon Monteverde.

Congress finally intervened and will hopefully put an end to the alleged MMFF irregularities that led to the disqualification of “Honor Thy Father”.
In his Facebook account, Matti shared what will transpire during the meeting with the MMFF Executive Committee on January 11, 2016 at the Mitra Building in Quezon City together with Monteverde and co-executive producer John Lloyd Cruz.
Matti was surprised that the probe will happen soon and he expects to get the justice he deserves.
This is by far the most controversial MMFF in years. We expect this probe to close the rift between the two parties and prevent similar issues in the future.
