Aside from Raffy Tima, the husband of Mariz Umali, another Kapuso reporter Cesar Apolinario was not able to hide his feelings over
Duterte draw flak on social media after Wednesday’s press conference in Davao City when instead of answering Umali’s question about his Cabinet secretaries, he resorted to catcalling the female reporter.
Apolinario said in a Facebook post that catcalling happens everywhere, whatever class you are. However, he believes it is different when it comes to our President in front of a presscon being televised on national TV. “PERO IBANG USAPAN NA KAPAG ANG GUMAWA AY MISMONG LIDER NG BANSA AT SA GITNA PA MISMO NG PRESSCON. TELEVISED AT TIYAK NA MAY NAKAPANOOD NA BATA. SA KATOTOHANAN, KANINA KO LANG NALAMAN ANG ISTORYANG ITO AT MISMONG ANAK KONG BABAE PA ANG NAGTANONG SA AKIN, MISMONG INAANAK PA NG JOURNALIST NA GINAWAN NITO. SI Mariz Umali, NA ANG TAWAG KO MADALAS AY “BUNSUY”. ISANG JOURNALIST NA RELIHIYOSA, MABAIT, MASUNURING BATA SA MAGULANG, AT HIGIT SA LAHAT ISANG BABAENG JOURNALIST NA HINDI SANAY NA NAKARIRINIG NG MURA O BASTOS NA MGA SALITA,” he wrote.
He’s also hoping that the incident will not be an example to make catcalling a norm in our society. “Nawa’y hindi ito maging ehemplo o gawing basehan ng mga kalalakihan para sabihing legal o walang masama ang catcalling dahil presidente mismo ang gumawa. Guys, may matino tayong pagiisip para masabing ang mali ay mali at ang mali ay hindi kailanman nagiging tama lalo na sa harapan ng mas nakababata sa atin.”
The Kapuso reporter ended his statement with, “FOR THE BETTER PHILIPPINES, CHANGE MUST START IN OUR WORKPLACE, IN OUR COMMUNITY, MOST IMPORTANTLY… IN THE COMFORT OF OUR HOME.”
