- Veteran journalist Ruth Cabal moves to prime time on CNN Philippines
- From “Newsroom Ngayon” to “Newsroom” at 9pm
Starting September 3, veteran journalist and CNN Philippines Senior Anchor/Correspondent Ruth Cabal will anchor the 9pm edition of Newsroom. Prior to Newsroom, Cabal anchored Newsroom Ngayon, CNN Philippines’ 10AM Filipino language newscast. The program will now be anchored by Cherie Mercado.
“I’m grateful and honored that CNN Philippines trusted me to handle one of the network’s prime time newscasts,” says Cabal on her new role. “I hope that with my nearly two decades of experience as a field reporter I will be able to bring to the program more probing and in-depth reports.”
Cabal has been in media for almost two decades. She started as a newscaster for several FM radio stations before shifting to television news.
She adds: “Though I expect the evening newscast to be more challenging for me since the morning newscast is mostly about breaking or developing news and processing information as they come in; in the evening newscast, we should already be able to give the audience not just the complete details of the day’s events, but as well as analyses, different story angles, reactions and counter reactions. With this, we’ll make sure that before our viewers go to sleep, they’re already empowered with accurate, useful, and relevant information.”
Newsroom, anchored by Ruth Cabal, airs daily at 9PM on CNN Philippines Free TV Channel 9. Newsroom Ngayon, the Filipino newscast hosted by Cherie Mercado, also airs daily at 10AM. In addition to the TV airings, the programs will stream live via Facebook (facebook.com/cnnphilippines) and on cnnphilippines.com.
