Senate President Vicente “Tito” Sotto III suggested to change a phrase in the national athem’s lyrcs. In the said suggestion, Tito asked to replace “ang mamatay nang dahil sa’yo” to “ang ipaglaban ang kalayaan mo.”
According to Sotto, the original phrase sounded “too defeatist.”
Changing the lyrics.
In a Twitter post, Tito slammed citizens who didn’t want the lyrics of ‘Lupang Hinirang’ changed.

Wanting it as it is.
Netizens pointed out that Tito doesn’t own the National Anthem. Therefore, he doesn’t have the right to change the lyrics just because he wanted to.
