Her beauty pageant journey started in Australia when she joined the Miss Teen Asia Pacific contest and finished as second place. The winner represented Australia in the Miss Teen International held in Bangkok, Thailand. However, the organizers thought that Paton had what it takes to excel in big competitions, so they decided to send her as a representative of her mother’s native land.

In preparation for the international stage, she came to the Philippines and attended a two-week training under the renowned beauty camp Kagandahang Flores of Rodgil Flores, where a battalion of international title holders were produced such as Bea Rose Santiago and Precious Lara Quigaman.
