During the Star Magic All-Star Games 2019 at the Araneta Coliseum last August 25, Sunday, the audience started speculating after spotting Julia Barretto and Gerald Anderson wearing the same jersey number of three.
Their photo during the event spread across the internet and elicited various reactions from the netizens.
Some have speculated that the two Kapamilya stars are slowly publicizing their rumored relationship while others commented that the two looked good together with their identical jersey numbers. Some fans also admired Gerald for his sweet gesture of copying Julia’s Jersey number. While others said that Julia might be the one copying Gerald for he was already wearing the same number when he was still in a relationship with Maja Salvador.
But many believed that the two controversial actors had a secret message behind the number three.
Amidst the rumors, Julia’s mom Marjorie Barretto decided to defend her daughter from a netizen who commented on an Instagram post: “number 3 rin si @geraldandersonjr”
Marjorie explained: “Let me correct this before the story gets big and out of hand again. Number 3 has always been Julia’s jersey number since her high school volleyball varsity days. No special meaning. <3”
For his part, Gerald explained in his past interviews that he chose the number 3 because he idolizes NBA Hall of Famer Allen Iverson. The actor usually plays for the Imus Bandera in the Maharlika Pilipinas Basketball League (MPBL).
In spite of the clarifications, netizens still claimed that the number three has a special meaning in the rumored Julia and Gerald relationship.

Rumors of the relationship started when the two stars worked on the movie Between Maybes. Their kissing scene was speculated to be the reason behind Julia’s breakup with Joshua Garcia, her other half in the JoshLia tandem.
The rumored couple even became top trending topics on Twitter along with the name of Bea Alonzo, Gerald’s then-girlfriend of almost three years. This was after Bea made a cryptic post about making the same mistake again which was supposedly in reference to her relationship with Gerald and cheating rumors. This rumors were further fueled when Bea started liking photos of Gerald and Julia together at Rayver Cruz’s birthday party held at a bar in Bonifacio Global City, Taguig, last July 20.
Bea would later reveal that Gerald simply “ghosted” her and cut off all communications.
After a week of silence, Gerald spoke about the issue and clarified that there was no third party involved in his breakup with Bea while Julia also echoed his words and added that Bea was bullying her by liking social media posts pertaining to their alleged romance.
Many netizens expressed their disappointment in Julia and Gerald while Bea gained the sympathy of most netizens. In an interview, Bea said that she is now moving forward from her ill-fated love story.
