Continuing its drive to promote sustainability efforts and practices in the country and around the world, Brother International Philippines Corporation recently struck a partnership with marine conservation organization SEA Institute to hold a two-day corporate social responsibility (CSR) activity in which Brother employees and their families learned more about marine biodiversity and responsible fishing in the Verde Island Passage (VIP) in southern Luzon.

The CSR activity, held on October 12 and 13 at Sepoc Beach in Tingloy, Batangas on the first day and Eagle Point Resort in Mabini, Batangas on the second, saw members of the SEA Institute introduce and discuss their mission to conserve the VIP’s biodiversity and increase awareness for their cause. They did so through fun activities for both adults and children, water sports such as kayaking and swimming, as well as professional scuba diving training for adults at the Eagle Point Resort.

The whole event was part of the whole Brother Group’s larger CSR efforts care of each Brother company around the world, which Brother Philippines President Glenn Hocson presented on the first day.

“One of our core values at Brother is the promotion of sustainability and the overall care for the environment, and our partnership with SEA Institute is a huge step in that direction for us,” said Hocson. “We’re glad to be more aware of and taking efforts to conserve the natural beauty we have in places such as the Verde Island Passage, and we hope to do more CSR activities like these in various places in the Philippines.”

Brother’s CSR plans were also supported by messages from Mr. Ichiro Sasaki, Representative Director and President of Brother Industries Ltd. and Mr. Toru Uchibayashi, President of Brother International Corporation.

Brother employees left Batangas with a greater appreciation and understanding of the amazing natural biodiversity present in the VIP and Philippine seas, as well as better awareness of what everyone can do to help preserve our natural resources.
