On his Twitter account, actor Jerald Napoles posted that people in power are influencing others to normalize rape threats and pass it off as a joke.

“Tangena nanonormalize kasi ng mga may mataas na katungkulan ang rape jokes! Tangina kaya ang babastos ng ugali ng mga tao!” said Jerald on his Twitter account.

A netizen then noted that Jerald was one of those people, to which he retorted through a Twitter reply.

With the political climate, it has been increasingly alarming that Filipinos are more prone to spouting rape threats, sexually harassing comments and objectification of women on social media.

For instance, former child actress Xyriel Manabat recently received sexual harassment on social media to which she fought against. Xyriel also urged Filipinos to stop normalizing dirty mindsets and sexual harassment.

Then most recently, a Converge employee posted rape threats against actress Liza Soberano. Liza already took legal actions against the employee last September 24, 2020.

Meanwhile, since the start of his run, President Rodrigo Duterte has been receiving backlash and criticisms because of his rape jokes.
