Singer-comedian Janno Gibbs has defended their movie Pakboys from criticisms about its offensive LGBT jokes.

In a statement during their press conference, Janno said sorry for those who are offended by their jokes.

“We are very sorry. Alam naming may mga na offend (We know there are those who were offended) but this is not a politically correct movie.”

But he also quick to defend the film as just pure humor. Gibbs said they are not trying to be politically correct in the film because it’s just all about entertainment.

“I think it’s clear na this is not a movie na para hanapan ninyo ng life lessons and political correctness. I think we have a lot of other movies sa Film fest na makakahanap kayo ng ganun. This is pure humor. This is a straight-out comedy. This is not a heartwarming movie, this is not yung maraming lessons…talagang straight pagpapatawa lang,” he said

Pakboys: Takusa is Viva Films’ entry to this year’s Metro Manila Film Festival which will start its virtual screening on December 25. Gibbs is joined in the film by other comedians Jerald Napoles, Andrew E., and Dennis Padilla.

The film’s teaser gained negative reactions for showing Padilla’s character Bruno sleeping with a woman who is not his wife and then putting the gag of the woman urinating while standing up which many regarded as disrespect towards transgender people.

Meanwhile, co-star Dennis Padilla also defended the film saying they and even the creators of the film have no intention of offending the LGBTQ community.

He explained that his eldest daughter is part of the LGBTQ community so he himself will not do anything to disrespect them.

Comedienne Giselle Sanchez who was the host of the press con also defended the film saying it’s a Pinoy comedy movie and it has no intention to disrespect any gender or culture especially the LGBTQ community.

“I also like to speak on behalf of Viva that this is a Pinoy comedy movie. And it was beautiful that Janno did apologize but from the writers and the producers of the movie, they have no intention to disparage any gender, culture, or anything that is offensive especially to the LGBT community.”
