30-year old Olympic gold medalist Hidilyn Diaz said on Wednesday that she was ‘smart’ to choose her coach and now fiancé Julius Naranjo as her soon-to-be husband.
“Ang masasabi ko lang swerte ako sa kanya at swerte din s’ya sa akin. Sobrang saya ko lang na sinabi n’ya na ‘God is the center of our relationship’ kasi kailangan ‘yon eh.
“Then swerte ako sa kanya dahil sobrang supportive n’ya and sabi ko nga, smart ako kasi nga pinili ko s’ya. Kasi magaling s’ya as a coach and as a person,” she admitted during her launch as BDO’s newest brand ambassador.
When Naranjo proposed to her, Diaz believed that it was all a prank but was shocked to know that the proposal, which was done in the traditional kneeling, was real.
“Yes po. Na-shock ako kasi pina-prank n’ya ako parati. Kaya kung makikita n’yo ang video, parang, ‘Ano ba ‘wag ka mag-joke nang gan’yan nasa harap tayo nang camera,’ yun pala totoo na yieee!” she recalled.
Regarding the plan, Diaz, in an earlier interview, said she and her hubby are planning an intimate wedding to be held in Mount Costa, Benguet, Baguio City.
“We’re planning a simple private wedding in Mount Costa in Baguio,” she said. “The place doesn’t really matter as long as God is there and our loved ones.”
In terms of the honeymoon, she revealed that they hope to spend it traveling around Europe.
“I want our honeymoon to be in Europe, or any place where we will be away from it all and have time for both of us to plan the future,” she hoped.
The couple was engaged earlier on October 16, with Naranjo giving Diaz a custom-made engagement ring featuring a barbell with a diamond on top.
