In true spirit, GCash, the leading mobile wallet in the country, was able to raise over P30 million in donations through GCash for Good, its corporate social responsibility arm, to safely accelerate fundraising for relief, recovery operations, and rehabilitation for the communities affected by Typhoon Odette.

GCash for Good enables users to give monetary assistance to important causes such as disaster relief through the Pay Bills feature (select “Others” to donate) and Scan to Donate using the GCashGivesBack QR Code. The donations were equally disbursed among 12 beneficiaries, namely UNICEF, World Vision, Philippine Red Cross, ABS-CBN LingkodKapamilya Foundation, Ayala Foundation, Caritas Manila, GMA Kapuso Foundation, Jollibee Group Foundation, Ramon Aboitiz Foundation, Ronald McDonald House Charities of the Philippines, Save the Children Philippines, and World Wide Fund for Nature Philippines.

“At GCash, we will continue to work with our partners to further utilize the GCash app to help Filipinos during difficult times. The cooperation between the private and public sectors is crucial in speeding up the recovery of the communities affected by Typhoon Odette,”said Martha Sazon, GCash President and CEO.

Prior to launching the donation drive for Typhoon Odette-affected communities, GCash also facilitated several fundraising initiatives through GCash for Good in 2020 and 2021. With the #FightCOVID campaign, GCash was able to help support the Filipino frontliner workforce and provide assistance to those who were gravely affected by the pandemic. During the Taal Volcano eruption, GCash was also able to further help the affected communities in the area with its #TulongTaal donation drive. GCash has also raised funds for relief programs for Typhoon Ulysses and Rolly victims after both calamities ravaged many parts of the country.

“We continue to be One with the Nation in helping our kababayans during calamities through our partner NGOs. We are focused on empowering more Filipinos everyday by giving them access to relevant and secure financial services, thereby enabling them to support various causes,” said Chito Maniago, VP for Corporate Communications and Public Affairs.

With GCash for Good, many Filipinos were empowered to help others with a safe and accessible means in times of disasters like Typhoon Odette. Now, it only takes a few taps on the GCash app for people to donate any amount and help make a difference.
