Darryl Yap’s ‘Maid in Malacañang’ started with a joke?

Senator Imee Marcos, on Sunday, July 17, revealed that the upcoming movie Maid in Malacañang actually began with her joking with its director, Darryl Yap.

She revealed it at the mediacon on that day, through an invite extended to LionhearTV by Francis Gomez.

“Nag-umpisa sa kalokohan. Dahil si Direk Darryl at ako, wala nang ginawa kundi magbiruan,” said the senator during the movie’s media conference.

Marcos, during those conversations, opened up about her “near-ending career” following the success of her Kape Chronicles during the election period. She then suggested to Yap, “Tara! Tara! Gawa tayo ng sine!”

The controversial filmmaker proposed that the movie focuses on the last three days of the Marcoses in Malacañang before leaving the country. The senator argued, “Sabi ko, hindi naman nakakatuwa iyon, malungkot.”

Yap responded, “Tignan natin. Tignan natin what happens.”

Marcos was also “mystified” by the content creator’s decision to feature the remaining 72 hours—a painful memory that she never wanted to relive.

“Noong iniisa-isa namin by the hour kung anong nangyayari, naintindihan ko na kung bakit may kuwento doon talaga.

“It was a difficult process also for me. Because so much of what occurred was painful not only to my family, but I think too many many people who were close to us, and I didn’t want to relive them again.”

The senator also felt it was time to tell their side of the story.

“Iba’t-ibang mga k’wento tungkol sa mga panahong iyon eh sa iba’t-ibang sektor. Pero ang talagang mga nabuhay noon at nandoon na nasa Malacañang, eh kami lang. So dapat ikw’ento rin namin para may kabuuan ang ating kasaysayan.”

According to Marcos, the process of making the film did not offer any leeway for creativity. Only the truth will be shown, she said.

“Yes. The [prognosis] of the story is that we all know how it ends. Well, we even know 36 years down the line. So alam natin ang lahat nang nangyari.

“So ito nga, how we will find out exactly what the details are. So there is not much leeway for untrue or falsehood, or fantasy-telling, or reimagining. Kaya kailangan makatotohanan kasi alam naman nang lahat ito eh.”

Maid in Malacañang stars Cesar Montano, Ruffa Guttierez, Cristine Reyes, Diego Loyzaga, Ella Cruz, Karla Estrada, Elizabeth Oropesa, Beverly Salviejo, Kiko Estrada, and Kyle Velino. It will premiere on cinemas beginning August 3.
