On September 29, Kapamilya artist Sue Ramirez discussed how she made her long-distance relationship (LDR) work with her beau Victorias City Mayor Javi Benitez.
At the media conference for Ramirez’s endorsement with Silka Papaya with the press, including LionhearTV, she cited how she and Benitez find time to be with each other.
“Ganon talaga, busy rin naman si Javi which is a good thing.
“Just recently, kapag tuwing pwede kami magkita, magkikita kami. Siguro ‘yun na ‘yung naging understanding namin. Medyo matagal na rin kaming nag-e-LDR, kasi nga he had to be based na there in Negros (Occidental) because of the politics since he ran for Mayor.”
She then said that she accepted and adapted to their situation, noting that they are both busy with their respective careers.
“So ako tanggap ko na ‘yun at minindset ko na ‘yung sarili ko, at prinaktis ko na ‘yun siyempre, hindi naman tayo pwedeng hindi mag-aadjust sa mga nagbabagong panahon, kailangan marunong tayong mag-adapt.
“Hindi madali. Ang hirap ah na hindi accessible sayo ‘yung mahal mo sa buhay na hindi mo alam kung kailan mo siya pwedeng tawagan or makausap kasi siyempre, busy ‘yung tao. Isang buong city ‘yung prinoproblema niya, sisingit ka pa ng kung anong problema mo. So may ganong balanse na kailangan mong i-figure out kung kukulitin ko pa ba siya dito. So may mga ganon siyempre.”
She then highlighted the value of having good communication in a relationship.
“Pero, ‘yun nga, at the end of the day, it’s how both of you find ways to communicate with each other /that’s/ going to keep the love and the relationship alive. The most basic foundation for a relationship to last is communication.”
She did admit to feeling pressure about having romantic ties with a politician.
“Feeling ko may kaunti sigurong pressure na hindi ako pwedeng magkamali or hindi ako pwedeng magsabi ng ganito. Pero, knowing myself, wala naman akong masyadong iniingatan, wala naman akong secrets, di ba? So, wala naman akong dapat ikabahala or ikakaba para masira po ‘yung image niya at masira niya ‘yung image ko at the same time. So feeling ko hindi naman siya ganon ka-pressure.”
Ramirez and Benitez’s relationship began with dating rumors in February 2020. And in August of the same year, she confirmed their relationship. The two have been together since.
Recently, she expressed support for his mayoral campaign in Victorias City during the 2022 elections.
As for her career, Ramirez began her Kapamilya career with the ABS-CBN remake of Mula sa Puso in 2011. She then starred in various Kapamilya projects, such as Angelito: Batang Ama, La Luna Sangre, A Soldier’s Heart, and The Broken Marriage Vow.
Ramirez recently signed her endorsement deal with the beauty product Silka Papaya. As for her upcoming projects, she has an upcoming series in Viu titled K-Love. She also has Kid Alpha One and Iron Heart in the pipeline.
