On November 24, actor Jake Cuenca asserted why he doesn’t shy away from taking on LGBTQIA+ roles since he’s confident with his sexuality.
At the media conference for My Father, Myself, which LionhearTV covered, Cuenca stressed that he doesn’t question himself and his sexuality when portraying LGBTQIA+ characters.
“Actually, to be [very honest] with you, I’ve always been confident with my sexuality. Like, I’ve always been. Kaya po wala akong takot na tumanggap ng ganitong project kasi I don’t question myself and my sexuality.”
He then discussed working with Sean De Guzman and director Joel Lamangan with the intimate scenes in their upcoming Metro Manila Film Festival (MMFF) entry.
“But that’s also why na kayang-kaya naming gawin ni Sean ‘yung mga eksena and we’re professional, and we’re friends after the sequences.
“Sabi ko nga, because of Direk Joel din, noong ginawa ko po ‘yung Lihis, that was the biggest challenges of my career then. Pero, sabi ko nga, I’m blessed na I have another opportunity to conquer this challenge again, to do this movie with Direk Joel Lamangan.
“Sabi ko nga, I’m thankful kay Lord na–I’m blessed that I have the maturity as an actor to breathe life into this kind of movie.”
He also admitted getting emotional with the news that their movie would be part of the MMFF 2022.
“Noong nalaman ko pong kasama po kami sa MMFF, umiyak po ako at natuwa po ako kasi ang movie po namin, this is a very simple film. Kumbaga, these are four passionate actors and one brilliant director, kumbaga hindi po siya ‘yung sobrang daming budget sa mundo.
“Pero, nakapasok po kami ng MMFF dahil po maganda ‘yung istorya, sana po tulungan ninyo po kami na ispread ‘yung word na ‘yun na maganda ang istorya, kaya po siya tinanggap ng MMFF kasi it’s beautiful film directed by Joel Lamangan.”
As for their film, My Father, Myself also stars Dimples Romana and Tiffany Grey.
Under the direction of Joel Lamangan and the co-production of 3:16 Media Network and Mentorque Productions, the MMFF2022 entry opens on December 25, Christmas Day.
