On February 21, Senator Imee Marcos attested to the improved quality of Martyr or Murderer from Maid in Malacañang.
At the grand media conference of Martyr or Murderer, Marcos highlighted the unexpected success of Maid in Malacañang in cinemas.
“Everything occured, roughly 37 years ago this week. So I think the first, ‘yung ‘Maid in Malacañang’– ang totoo ‘yung unang pelikula, nangyari sa pagkukunsinte ni Vic del Rosario dahil kalokohan lamang ‘yun na naisip namin ng umabot ng 130 Million ata ‘yung online.
“Pagkatapos ng eleksyon, anong gagawin natin nito, so gumawa ng sine, nasa loob ng pitong araw, halos lahat nasa loob ng aming bahay.”
She also emphasized the improved film quality of their upcoming Viva film.
“Pero ngayon, medyo may pressure na. So there’s been a real effort in storytelling, some level of filmmaking, and the desire to authentically shoot in Ilocos Norte– as well as– the deserts of Morocco.
“So medyo siya naiiba. At trust me, it’s a much better movie.”
She then noted that after the positive reception from the moviegoers, they felt obligated to continue the story of the Marcoses in their film.
“Ayaw ko ng ikwento itong mga nangyari. Sa totoo lang they were among the saddest years of my life and I have no desire to relive them, but doon sa nangyari sa pagiging patok ng Maid in Malacañang, na-obliga kami na ipagpatuloy ‘yung kwento, kasi sabi ng lahat, anong nangyari pagkatapos noon, noong umalis kayo. Anong nangyari.
“So na-obliga akong mag-isip at magmuni-muni, at ikwento na nga ang nangyari.”
Martyr or Murderer stars Cristine Reyes, Cesar Montano, Ruffa Gutierrez, Ella Cruz, and Diego Loyzaga.
The film features artists reprising their roles, such as Kyle Velino, Elizabeth Oropesa, and Beverly Salviejo.
The newest cast members include Isko Moreno, Marco Gumabao, Jerome Ponce, Franki Russel, Cindy Miranda, Rose Van Ginkel, Billy Jake, Sachzna Laparan, and Marlon Mance.
Directed by Darryl Yap, Martyr or Murderer opens in cinemas on March 1, with a scheduled international release in the following weeks.
