The widely talked-about episode saw the declaration of Lyka Estrella, as the ninth grand winner of the long-running Kapamilya singing competition.
Not only did the grand finale of the most recent edition of the singing competition, Tawag ng Tanghalan break the noontime record for live concurrent viewers on YouTube on May 6–it also pushed It’s Showtime to reaching its highest people rating, since ABS-CBN shutdown.
According to rating provider, Nielsen Philippines, the May 6 episode generated a 4.0 people rating, the noontime show’s highest in nearly three years.
ABS-CBN got forced to go off air on May 5, 2020, which caused its TV shows to plummet in TV ratings.
Eat Bulaga, the Kapamilya noontime show’s fiercest rival on GMA Network, registered a 6.7 people rating, on the same day. It is worth noting, however, that ABS-CBN, through TV5 and A2Z, remains with limited free TV reach.
Partly responsible for It’s Showtime’s improved rating is its return to its original noon slot. It can be recalled the show moved to a later 12:45 pm slot, to accommodate the now-defunct pre-noontime variety show, Tropang LOL.
The hype for Tawag Ng Tanghalan’s ‘Huling Tapatan’ is also seen as one of the major factors, for the show’s impressive ratings last Saturday. The recently-concluded season is known for being the longest regular edition of the singing competition, lasting more than one year and six months. That said, one can’t also dismiss the show’s new segments, Isip Bata, Rampanalo, and the new season of Tawag Ng Tanghalan, as reasons for the improved ratings of the show.
