The much-anticipated return of Willie Revillame to the television screen on PTV-4 and IBC 13 is reportedly facing indefinite postponement due to challenges in negotiations between the renowned television host and the government-owned channels.
Entertainment commentator Cristy Fermin brought attention to the development on her show ‘Cristy Ferminute,’ suggesting that the show’s cancellation might be linked to Willie’s negotiating demands, a tactic that proved successful in dealings with private networks such as ABS-CBN, TV5, and GMA Network.
Cristy shared on her show, “May mga kumakalat kasi na maraming demand itong si Willie. Kasi noong nasa ABS siya tapos dito sa TV5, GMA… talagang nasunod ang kaniyang gusto.”
However, dealing with government-owned channels presents a different set of dynamics, as they adhere to specific processes and protocols. Fermin noted that rumors were circulating about Willie’s numerous demands in this particular negotiation.
The decision to enlist Willie as the host for IBC 13 drew criticism from some lawmakers, questioning the rationale behind the move. Jose C. Policarpio, Jr., President and CEO of IBC 13, explained that their objective was to leverage Willie’s popularity to reach a broader audience, specifically targeting the “lowest of the lowest among the people.”
Reports also suggested that Willie would not be receiving a salary from the government, and he would be responsible for handling sponsors, considering PTV and IBC fall under the jurisdiction of the Commission on Audit.
While discussions regarding Willie’s return took place in September, with a press conference held and plans to initiate activities post-ghost month, there has been no recent update on the status of ‘Wowowin.’ Speculations are emerging that, as an alternative, the show might initially be broadcast on online platforms such as YouTube or Facebook.
