On November 14, actress Iza Calzado reacted to Angel Guardian taking on the role of Deia in the Encantadia spin-off series, ‘Sang’gre.’
At the media conference for ‘Shake, Rattle, and Roll: Extreme,’ which LionhearTV covered, Calzado first recounted how she found out that director Mark Reyes would write the character of Deia, named after the actress’s daughter.

“Talagang ako, ‘Oh my God!’ What were the chances di ba? Sabi ko, ‘ikaw si Deia?’ Tapos sinabi ko sa kaniya, ganito, doon lang niya na-realize na, ‘Oh My God, galing pala talaga sa idea, ganyan.'”
She then recounted how she and Guardian had an emotional moment about the young Kapuso star’s role in ‘Sang’gre.’
“Tapos ‘yun, we had an emotional moment, and I did tell her–I did give her all of my good wishes, you know, and siyempre, we all need a lot of support with this phase in our lives.”
She also highlighted the significance of giving young stars their breakout roles.
“Sometimes, you know, marami kasi tayong mga artista na magagaling na nandiyan, and ang kailangan–all they really need is that opportunity. And so, God has blessed you with this opportunity, pag handaan mo siya.”
Guardian got emotional with Calzado’s praise during their interview and responded, “Wala masaya lang po ako.”
Calzado added, “Pareho kaming nagpipigil ng aming mga luha. Wala kaya natin ‘to.”
Calzado then discussed how the name ‘Amihan’ was a good luck charm for her career.
“Kaya nga pinangalan ko din si Deia ng Amihan din, kasi sobrang nagbigay siya ng swerte sa akin, ng grabeng good energy. Sabi ko nga, may it be Deia, may Deia be and favorable, and lucky for you.”
