The recent debut episode of ‘It’s Showtime’ on the GMA Network has sparked controversy, particularly regarding a speech delivered by Vice Ganda.
Lyricist and composer Lolito Go weighed in on the issue through his Facebook account, drawing comparisons between Vice Ganda’s speech and the work of director Darryl Yap.
In his analysis, Go highlighted striking similarities between Vice Ganda’s delivery and the content of Darryl Yap’s ‘Buo.’ He pointed out resemblances in themes, tone, and delivery, suggesting a significant overlap between the two.
While acknowledging the possibility of Vice Ganda having his own team for speechwriting or research, Go expressed skepticism that those responsible for crafting Vice’s monologue were unaware of Darryl Yap’s earlier work. He emphasized parallels in pacing and theatrical elements, suggesting a strong influence from Darryl Yap’s style.
Go also noted shared elements in the backgrounds and personalities of Vice Ganda and Darryl Yap, including their struggles, relationships, and work ethic. He argued that these similarities could further support the notion of influence.
Despite the observations, Go stopped short of accusing Vice Ganda of directly copying Darryl Yap’s work. However, he suggested that if there was indeed inspiration drawn from ‘Buo,’ proper credit should have been given to Darryl Yap.
The issue has divided netizens, with some agreeing with Go’s assessment and others defending Vice Ganda, citing differences in wording and message. Both Vice Ganda and Darryl Yap have chosen to remain silent on the matter, declining to offer their perspectives.
