On July 31, 2024, the WAGI Financial Literacy App was officially launched at the Philippine Innovation Hub of the National Development Company.

Partnering with the JuanHand online lending app, WAGI is a non-revenue app with a mission to promote financial literacy among Filipinos worldwide. This app stands out for its engaging, gamified, and rewards-driven approach.

Set to be available on Google Playstore and the Apple App Store in the coming weeks, WAGI aims to democratize financial literacy by making it accessible, enjoyable, and rewarding. The app features interactive modules, videos, and bite-sized reels covering basic to advanced financial concepts. To incentivize learning, users can earn rewards that can be redeemed at various establishments, including leading fast-food chains.

This marks a significant milestone in democratizing financial literacy across the Philippines, leveraging mobile technology to reach the mass audience. Aptly named WAGI (Wealth for Growth and Inclusion), the app makes learning accessible, fun, and rewarding. It features relevant and practical financial content applicable to Filipinos’ everyday lives, such as Basic Budgeting, Stock Investing, and everything in between. Lessons are formatted in engaging and snackable modules, including quick finance tips from successful personalities and celebrities. To further boost usage, borrowers can take post-learning tests after each module, with test scores converted into reward points redeemable at various partner establishments.

Marc Kristian Gulle, CEO of FEdCenter, highlighted the app’s advocacy during the launch event, stating, “We march towards free and easily accessible financial learning for all Pinoys.”

Francisco “Coco” Mauricio, president and CEO of WeFund, operator of the JuanHand app, emphasized the app’s potential impact, saying, “Financial literacy paves the way for inclusion which leads to empowerment — a cornerstone of national development.”

The event, packed with attendees, featured distinguished speakers from the government, including Atty. Rogelio Quevedo, SEC Commissioner; Leandro Angelo Y. Aguirre, Deputy Privacy Commissioner (NPC); and Antonio Mauricio, General Manager of the National Development Company (NDC). Their insights underscored the importance of financial literacy for the Philippines and the role WAGI can play in advancing this mission.

Aside from the members of the media, social media influencers, such as Antonette Aquino, Bea Sacramento, Kenneth V, Putik Queen, Yesha Pega, Regina Aungon, Joprey Samonte, Kyosuke Yuan Guinto and Vladia Disuanco, attended the launch.

When asked about potential celebrity endorsers for WAGI, Gulle mentioned, “As you saw in the video we presented today, celebrity couple Troy Montero and Aubrey Miles gave their teaser messages to invite the public to check out our app. We may consider Troy and Aubrey soon, but we are still open to suggestions for other celebrities who believe in our brand and can be its face.”
