Kapuso star David Licauco shared how his experience working on the historical action-drama series ‘Pulang Araw’ transformed his outlook on life and deepened his passion for acting.
In a recent interview, Licauco revealed that his role in the series had a profound impact on both his career and personal growth. “I would say na ‘Pulang Araw’ really changed my perspective with siguro my life din. ‘Yung acting, feeling ko this is something na I can do for a long time kaya ginagalingan ko talaga. Nag-iba ‘yung perspective talaga kasi dati business,” he said. Licauco added that prior to this, his primary focus had been on business ventures.
The actor, who portrays the character Hiroshi Tanaka—a young man who returns to the Philippines after years of studying in Japan—emphasized his commitment to his craft. He also expressed his ambition of winning an acting award, which motivates him to excel in every scene.
In ‘Pulang Araw,’ Hiroshi’s story intertwines with that of his childhood friends Adelina (played by Barbie Forteza) and Eduardo (played by Alden Richards). The series delves into the complexities of relationships, history, and cultural identity.
To prepare for the role, Licauco took on the challenge of learning the Japanese language. “Everyday kailangan ko siyang i-memorize. Actually hindi lang siya one night para i-memorize, it takes me two days, three days para ma-memorize ang Japanese lines. On top of that ‘yung acting pa. Siguro aral lang din talaga, aral ako nang aral ng acting, maraming trial and error,” he shared.
Licauco is joined by Japanese actors Jacky Woo, who plays his father Chikara Tanaka, and Jay Ortega, who portrays Imperial Japanese Army soldier Akio Watanabe. Ryo Nagatsuka also stars as a Japanese immigrant in the series.
‘Pulang Araw’ airs on GMA Prime at 8 p.m. and is available for streaming on Netflix, where it has gained significant attention from viewers.
