Acclaimed Kapuso journalist Kara David has opened up about her experience with bipolar disorder, sharing a positive perspective on her diagnosis that she sees as a “gift” rather than a hindrance.

In a recent interview on ‘KC After Hours’ with Karmina Constantino, uploaded on YouTube on November 9, David spoke candidly about her journey with the mental health condition. When Constantino asked if she ever feared how people might react to her revealing her diagnosis, David responded confidently, “Hindi.”

David explained that she perceives her condition as a source of creativity and strength, noting that her bipolar disorder enhances her ability to work in unique ways.

“Having bipolar disorder, hindi ko siya tinitingnan as disorder. Actually, tinitingnan ko siya as a gift. Feeling ko, may super power ako. Ay, naku! Tayong mga may bipolar may super power tayo. Suwerte tayo. But really that’s how I look at it. I look at it as a gift,” she shared.

She described how, during manic episodes, her mind feels exceptionally creative, enabling her to write and produce ideas more easily. “Parang, alam mo ‘yon, nakikita ko lang parang lumilipad ‘yong mga words tapos kinukuha mo lang siya nang gano’n. Tapos parang makulay lahat ng bagay,” David explained, highlighting how these moments often help her create her best work.

David also stressed the importance of being open about mental health, explaining that this openness fosters understanding and helps others learn to manage similar conditions.

This isn’t the first time David has discussed her diagnosis; she initially shared her experience with bipolar disorder in May 2023 on Nelson Canlas’ podcast, hoping to raise awareness and encourage others to see mental health from a positive perspective.
