Unkabogable star Vice Ganda has publicly addressed the recent announcement by partner Ion Perez that he is stepping down from his bid for a councilor seat in Concepcion, Tarlac.
The ‘It’s Showtime’ host clarified that she did not influence Perez’s decision, emphasizing that the couple respects each other’s autonomy in making personal and professional choices.
Perez initially shared the news in a video posted on Facebook, citing his desire to further prepare for the role, saying, “Pinapaalam ko lang po na hindi na po ako tatakbo or tutuloy bilang konsehal ng Concepcion dahil gusto ko po muna ihanda ang sarili ko para hindi mapahiya sa inyo at mapaglingkuran kayo nang tama.”
Speaking with showbiz vlogger Ogie Diaz, Vice Ganda clarified, “Hindi ganun ang dynamics namin ni Ion. Kaming dalawa, we don’t decide for each other, hindi ako sasabihan ni Ion na dapat ganito yung gawin ko. Ako rin sa kaniya, hindi ko sasabihin dapat ganito ‘yung gawin. Hinahayaan namin ‘yung isa’t isa na prumuseso ng mga bagay, pero nakaalalay kami,” Vice explained, emphasizing that they trust each other’s judgment fully.
“Puwede kami magbigay ng suhestiyon, ng opinyon, lalo na ‘pag pinag-uusapan namin, nagpapalitan kami. Pero we will not decide for each other. Ako magdedesisyon para sa’yo, siya magdedesisyon sa akin… Hindi kami ganun. So, ‘yung mga desisyon niya sa buhay, desisyon niya yun. At pinagkakatiwalaan ko siya.”
Vice went on to acknowledge Perez’s longstanding involvement in community service. “Alam mo pareho kami, si Ionkasi nasa politics ever since parang youth leader siya sa Tarlac noon pa, youth leader siya,” she shared. “At tsaka ever since, bago pa kami magkakilala hanggang sa nagkakilala kami active siya sa public service sa Tarlac. Kaya lagi siyang nasa Tarlac ang dami niya ganap.”
“Kung sinabi niyang tatakbo siya na may mga kumakausap sa kaniya, hindi rin ako magtataka kung sabihin niyang tatakbo siya. Kasi nandodoon siya e, noon pa e, active talaga siya. Pero kung sasabihin niyang hindi rin siya tutuloy, hindi rin ako magtataka. Kasi yun din siya, kilala ko yung pagkatao niya na mabuti kasi ‘yung puso ng asawa ko,” he added.
The pair, who celebrated a commitment ceremony in Las Vegas in 2021, continue to support each other’s individual endeavors, with Vice noting that she trusts Perez’s heart and decision-making in any path he chooses.
