Multi-awarded actor John Arcilla has officially made his comeback to GMA Network after nearly a decade.
The actor is set to star in the much-anticipated action series ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’, which marks his return to Kapuso primetime.
Arcilla last appeared on GMA Network in the hit 2016 fantasy series ‘Encantadia’, where he played the iconic antagonist Hagorn. Following his stint in the Kapuso network, he became a staple in ABS-CBN’s top-rated programs, including ‘FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano’ (2017), ‘Dirty Linen’ (2023), and ‘Pamilya Sagrado’ (2024). His return to GMA Network was unveiled at the media conference for ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’ on January 13, 2025, held at Quantum Skyview in Gateway Mall, Quezon City.
In ‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’, Arcilla takes on the role of Julio, a seemingly benevolent philanthropist whose true motives bring chaos to the lives of the people in Tumahan, particularly the titular character Lolong, played by Ruru Madrid.
“Yung position noong character ko ay manggugulo sa buhay ni Lolong,” Arcilla shared during the press event. “Ang pagka-demonyo dito noong character ko is mas doon pa sa ginagawa ko kaysa sa itsura ko.”
Arcilla emphasized his dedication to creating dynamic characters, saying, “Mas gusto kong gawing clean yung character ni Julio. Exciting dahil mukhang guguluhin ko talaga silang lahat.”
The series also serves as a reunion for Arcilla and his former Encantadia co-stars, including Rocco Nacino, Rochelle Pangilinan, Pancho Magno, Rodjun Cruz, Tanya Gomez, and Klea Pineda. The actor expressed excitement about collaborating with familiar faces while bringing a fresh, menacing character to life.
“Humanda ka, Ruru Madrid, tayo naman magsasagupa!” he teased, referring to their on-screen rivalry as Hagorn and Ybarro in ‘Encantadia’.
Arcilla’s extensive body of work with GMA Network includes celebrated projects such as ‘That’s My Amboy’ (2016), ‘Genesis’ (2013), ‘My Beloved’ (2012), ‘Machete’ (2011), and ‘Sugo’ (2005). His return to the network underscores his versatility and dedication to taking on roles that challenge him as an actor.
‘Lolong: Bayani ng Bayan’ continues the story of the hit 2022 series Lolong, which was the most-watched TV show of that year. The new season, brimming with action, drama, and fresh faces, is set to premiere on January 20, 2025, on GMA Primetime after ’24 Oras’.
