The ABS-CBN film production outfit continues to maintain a lion share in Philippine box office, with three of its films leading the local chart in 2024.

Star Cinema remains the Philippine’s biggest film production house. That seems to be an understatement given how many years the studio has kept its complete dominance over local box-office. The number of times its movies held the ‘highest-grossing Filipino film of all time’ is also a screaming testament to its unrivaled might. Since its foray into film making in the ’90s, it has already produced movie stars, most of whom are the biggest in the industry.

Last year, 2024, was definitely a great year for Star Cinema, as it once again proved it can crush records. After setting a new milestone in local cinema, with Rewind‘s more than ₱924 million haul in 2023, the production studio proceeded to ruling the local box-office in 2024, with Joshua Garcia and Julia Barretto-starrer, Un/Happy For You, which grossed more than ₱450 million globally, and of course, Kathryn Bernardo and Alden Richards’ Hello, Love, Again which is the first Filipino film to earn more than ₱1 billion at the local box-office. Globally, the film collected more than ₱1.4 billion.

Completing the top three highest-grossing Filipino film of 2024, is Vice Ganda’s MMFF entry, And the Breadwinner Is…, which grossed more than ₱460 million, making it the top-earning MMFF film of 2024.
It was also a solid proof of Vice Ganda’s untainted reputation as a local box-office juggernaut, given the many times her films held the ‘highest-grossing film title’. The three films collectively generated more than ₱2.3 billion worth of box-office receipts.
