HUAWEI Philippines leads the way in accessible, next-generation cashless payments for smartwatches as it unveils the Watch Pay feature with GCash on its latest line of wearable devices. Watch Pay transforms HUAWEI wearables into fast, contactless payment devices, letting users make secure and efficient transactions with QR codes to pay on the go.

The GCash Watch Pay feature is the first in the Philippines to enable QR code payments on wearable devices via GCash. This feature is now available for use on the the HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate, HUAWEI WATCH GT 4, HUAWEI WATCH GT 5 Series, HUAWEI WATCH D2, HUAWEI WATCH Fit 3, and the HUAWEI Band 10 and will be available to wearables launched in the future.

HUAWEI Maintains Lead in Global Wearable Shipments in IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Report

The launch of the Watch Pay feature on HUAWEI wearables comes after the tech brand was reported to have ranked first globally for wrist-worn devices priced below USD 700 in 2024. This was according to IDC’s latest Worldwide Quarterly Wearable Device Tracker report. While global wrist-worn device shipments declined by 1.4% year-on-year to 190 million units, HUAWEI saw growth and led its market for the fifth consecutive year with a global-best shipment increase of 33.6%.

Its diverse product lineup, which includes HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate Series, WATCH Series, WATCH GT Series, WATCH Fit and Band Series, and Health and Kids Watch Series features smartwatches and fitness bands that offer advanced capabilities focused on fitness, sports, health, and convenience.

In 2024, HUAWEI also introduced the HUAWEI TruSense System, which enables more advanced and more precise health and wellness tracking for HUAWEI wearable devices. HUAWEI has also expanded its presence across Asia-Pacific, the Middle East and Africa, and Latin America.

Safe and Convenient Payments with Watch Pay

HUAWEI Philippines continues to innovate the wearable experience as it partners with GCash to make secure, QR code-based transactions possible on HUAWEI’s line of wearable devices with Watch Pay. GCash is the leading Finance Super App in the Philippines, operated by G-Xchange, Inc. (GXI), a subsidiary of Mynt, the country’s first and only $5 billion unicorn. Through the app users can conveniently pay bills, purchase prepaid airtime, transfer money nationwide even to other banks, and shop from over 6 million partner merchants and sellers. Additionally, GCash provides access to savings, loans, insurance, investments, and more, all from the user’s smartphone.

As a pioneer in digital finances, GCash has pushed innovation by launching SMS-based payments in 2004 to transform transactions with QR payments. By eliminating the need for physical wallets, QR payment solutions offer greater convenience. Now, GCash is taking another step forward by powering Watch Pay on HUAWEI smartwatches, allowing users to make seamless transactions without needing their mobile devices.

How to Access GCash with Watch Pay

To access GCash through HUAWEI smartwatches, users can follow these steps:

Log your HUAWEI ID on their Android or HUAWEI phones. The HUAWEI ID region must be under the Philippines.
Connect HUAWEI Health to your HUAWEI smartwatch.
Log in to your GCash mobile app. Make sure your account is fully verified.
On your HUAWEI smartwatch menu, go to ‘Settings’ and select the ‘Payment’ option.
Find the ‘GCash’ option to install the app on your smartwatch. Open the app once installed.
Enter your GCash pin. Scan the QR code displayed via the GCash mobile app.
Select “Bind” on the GCash mobile app.
Both the GCash mobile app and the watch screen should show that the linking is successful.

After successfully linking their accounts to their HUAWEI wearables, users can immediately use their devices to conduct their transactions using the dynamic GCash QR payment code that will be displayed on their watch.

With just a quick scan at any 7-Eleven, Lawson, Marketplace, Starbucks stores, and other stores that accept QR code-based payments, they can enjoy fast, hassle-free transactions even without their phones or wallets.

GCash seeks to continue forging strong partnerships with industry leaders like HUAWEI to drive innovation and empower Filipinos. Watch Pay is the first of a series of advancements in the pipeline for the financial super app.

Experience Smart and Hassle-Free Features on HUAWEI Wearables

Enjoy fast and safe transactions right from your wrist with Watch Pay, the Philippines’ first QR Code payment via smartwatch, on the HUAWEI WATCH Ultimate, HUAWEI WATCH GT 4, HUAWEI Watch GT 5 Series, HUAWEI WATCH D2, HUAWEI WATCH Fit 3, and the HUAWEI Band 10.

HUAWEI Wearables are available on Shopee, Lazada, TikTok, HUAWEI Online Store and HUAWEI Experience Stores nationwide.
