Content creator Jack Argota faced backlash from netizens after criticizing the use of the pronoun “her” in reference to actress and comedian Awra Briguela’s graduation announcement.

The controversy began when Argota reshared an artcard from ABS-CBN News on Facebook celebrating Awra’s senior high school graduation. The post included the caption: “Awra Briguela on finally getting her high school degree: ‘Simula pa lang ito.’”
In response, Argota wrote, “Anong her? Goodluck bro!” — a comment that sparked outrage online, with many accusing him of disrespecting Awra’s gender identity and misgendering her.
Angry reactions quickly flooded the comments section.
One netizen wrote a lengthier response, saying, “Imagine having a disability—something that already makes you a target of discrimination—yet you still choose to spread hate. You of all people should understand how it feels to be judged for who you are.”
Despite the criticism, Argota doubled down on his remarks, posting another statement: “Masakit tanggapin ang katotohanan na hindi ka ‘her,’ HERcules ka.”
In a separate post, he reshared his original comment and added, “Ang OA nyo mga beh ha, I love #Awra.” Later, he posted a photo with Awra and wrote, “Congrats Mi.” He also defended himself by saying, “Sa dinami-daming nagbiro sa post na yun, yung biro ko pa yung napansin? Ayoko na mag pisbok!”
Meanwhile, Awra addressed the issue in an interview, clarifying that the Facebook page which triggered Argota’s reaction is not actually hers. According to the actress, the page with over 1.1 million followers is run by a poser.
In effect, Argota’s comment was a reaction to a fake account—but the backlash fell squarely on Awra, who later reaffirmed her identity and thanked supporters who stood up for her online.
