Liza Soberano has confirmed that she and Enrique Gil ended their relationship almost three years ago, putting to rest years of speculation surrounding their status.

The actress made the revelation on the August 14 episode of the ‘Can I Come In?’ podcast with filmmaker Sarah Bahbah.
“I’ve been itching to tell people this because I haven’t been very truthful. Quen hasn’t been very truthful. Quen and I broke up,” she said. “We’ve been broken up for almost three years now… The reason why we haven’t said anything about it is because Enrique, or Quen, asked me not to say anything about it first.”
Soberano admitted that both she and Gil initially avoided making their split public because they “didn’t want it to be real” and feared the impact it might have on her career. She described their separation as “a beautiful breakup” still filled with love, though she acknowledged they “weren’t a match anymore.”
“I still love him as a person. When I look back at our time together, I see good moments all the time,” she said, referring to Gil as her “childhood best friend.”
Soberano also reflected on how their love story began organically even before they became an onscreen love team, tracing it back to their work together in the 2013 film ‘She’s The One’. She credited their partnership with giving her stability and an escape from childhood struggles, calling it both a “safety net” and “armor.”
Gil has yet to publicly address Soberano’s confirmation. However, the actor recently sparked buzz after leaving a comment—“I love you ❤️”—on one of Soberano’s TikTok videos, prompting fans to speculate about the status of their relationship.
Rumors of their breakup first surfaced in late 2023 when an unreleased interview suggested they had split in October 2022. At the time, both stars avoided confirming the matter, with Gil telling ‘TV Patrol’ in April 2023 that “we’re good” and expressing continued support for Soberano’s career in the U.S.
