Kapuso screenwriter and ‘Encantadia’ creator Suzette Doctolero took to Facebook today, August 3, to express her gratitude to fans for their overwhelming support for ‘Encantadia Chronicles: Sang’gre’ (ECS)—especially after the show recently surpassed ABS-CBN’s ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ in nationwide ratings.
“Salamat sa suporta sa Encantadia! Sa mga nagpapasalamat at bumabati sa mataas na ratings ng ECS, kayo po ang aming pinasasalamatan dahil sa inyong mainit na suporta! Avisala eshma!” she wrote in a lengthy Facebook post addressed to fans and supporters.
According to the latest Nielsen data, ‘Sang’gre’ scored higher than ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ in both single-channel and aggregated ratings—marking a rare ratings upset for the ABS-CBN primetime drama.
On Friday, July 25, ‘Sang’gre’ earned a strong 12.3% nationwide rating, surpassing ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’s’ 11.3%. The trend continued the following Monday, July 28, with ‘Sang’gre’ hitting 12.9%, while ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ settled at 11.7%.
This marked a significant milestone for ‘Sang’gre’, which airs on GMA Network and GTV. In contrast, ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ has the advantage of airing across three networks—TV5, Kapamilya Channel, and A2Z—making its higher aggregated ratings more common.
Despite ‘Sang’gre’ often winning in single-channel ratings, its lead in total viewership last week was the first time it overtook ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ across the board.
Doctolero, known for her candid online interactions, also addressed fans and followers who have been messaging her directly. “Nagiguilty ako na hindi ko masagot lahat… hayaan ninyong igroup message ko kayo,” she said.
She also reminded aspiring writers about her free concept writing workshop, cautioning against scams and emphasizing that no fees are required to join.
In her signature witty tone, Doctolero defended her habit of engaging online: “Sila ang dahilan kaya may palabas. Kung wala sila, ano ang saysay ng aming ginagawa? Kaya bakit ko sila iisnabin?… Friendly po talaga akong tao. At hilig kong magpatawa.”
She also clarified that any perceived sarcasm online is all in good fun: “Socmed [is] impersonal, hindi ninyo naririnig ang tono at halakhak ko, kaya kung ang basa ninyo ay galit, projection ninyo lang siguro. Char!”
Meanwhile, ‘Sang’gre’ has reportedly concluded its full-season run with no current plans for an extension. On the other hand, ABS-CBN has yet to confirm whether ‘FPJ’s Batang Quiapo’ will continue beyond its current arc.
