4K-restored version of NORA AUNORThe digitally restored 1978 classic film “ATSAY” of National Artist for Film Nora Aunor, will be shown in select cinemas on Sept 24-30, via Sinag Maynila Independent Film Festival 2025.
Aside from the regular categories in competition, Sinag Maynila 2025 celebrates the Philippine Film Industry Month (September) by featuring the restored works of our National Artists, with “Atsay” being part of the festival’s “Pambansang Alagad ng Sining” section.
“Atsay,” just one of the many classic films of La Aunor, was restored in 2022 through the efforts of FDCP’s Film Restoration program spearheaded by its Philippine Film Archive (PFA) division.

The 4k-restored Lino Brocka classic film, “JAGUAR” is also part of this section and will be the opening film of the festival.
On the inclusion of the “Pambansang Alagad ng Sining” section: “As we give a spotlight to the Sinag Maynila finalists, Filipino filmmakers who are either first-timers, veterans, amateurs, or professionals, we also highlight the important works of our National Artists.
“And we thank the Film Development Council of the Philippines for their effort to restore and preserve these masterpieces which allows movie goers to see these films in all their splendor and glory, as it was meant to be seen — the big screen,” says Sinag Maynila Founder, Wilson Tieng.
Sinag Maynila’s festival director is the acclaimed Brillante Mendoza.
The millennials and Gen Z’s are encouraged to catch the digitally-remastered ATSAY, to find out why it clinched the MMFF 1978 Best Picture, including the coveted Best Performer for Ms Aunor (only one acting category for that year).
