Seasoned broadcast journalist Ivan Mayrina renewed his contract with GMA Integrated News on September 5, celebrating his 25-year career with the Kapuso Network.
This new chapter in Ivan’s journey as a Kapuso further highlights the trust, excellence, and shared commitment of GMA Integrated News’ “mas malaking misyon at mas malawak na paglilingkod sa bayan.”
Present during the contract signing were GMA Network President and CEO Gilberto R. Duavit, Jr.; Senior Vice President and Head of GMA Integrated News, Regional TV, and Synergy Oliver Victor B. Amoroso, and Vice President and Deputy Head for News Programs and Specials Michelle Seva.

Joining the event were Vice President and Head for Corporate Affairs and Communications Angela Javier Cruz, Asst. Vice President and Deputy Head of Integrated News Operations Queenie Dimapawi, Assistant Vice President for GMA Integrated News, Regional TV and Synergy Administration Maria Teresa Bernabe, Assistant Vice President for Integrated News Systems and Support Mimi Yapchiongco, GMAIN Senior Program Manager and News Cluster Head for ‘24 Oras Weekend’ Kate dela Cruz-Robledo, ‘24 Oras Weekend’ Program Manager Marielle Ventura, and GMA Integrated News Research Senior Manager and Ivan’s wife Karen Tiongson-Mayrina.

25 years of journalistic excellence
Since joining GMA in 2000, Ivan has built a solid career as a reporter and has become one of the most reliable and credible voices in broadcast journalism.
He began his Kapuso journey as anchor of GMA News Live/Flash report and Segment Producer of the long-running morning TV show Unang Hirit. He would later become one of the on-cam personalities of Unang Hirit and has been one of its news anchors and hosts since then.
In 2018, Ivan officially joined Pia Arcangel on GMA Integrated News’ weekend primetime newscast 24 Oras Weekend.
As a beat reporter, Ivan has covered the justice and courts beats, the Manila Police District, community events, and national government agencies. As a Malacañang reporter, he has covered two Philippine presidents: President Ferdinand Marcos Jr. (June 2022-present) and former President Rodrigo Duterte (May 2021-June 2022).
Ivan has covered major national and international events, including the aftermath of Super Typhoon Yolanda (2013), which contributed to GMA Network’s third Peabody Award.
He was the first on the scene after the siege of Moro Islamic Liberation Front rebels in Kolambugan town in Lanao del Norte in 2008. The said coverage earned for GMA’s flagship newscast 24 Oras a “Silver World Medal” for best newscast in the 2009 New York Festivals.
GMA Network Chairman Atty. Felipe L. Gozon praised Ivan’s hard work and commitment to his craft.
“Isa si Ivan Mayrina sa ipinagmamalaki nating GMA Integrated News personalities. Regular natin siyang napapanood tuwing Sabado at Linggo sa ‘24 Oras Weekend.’ Kapag wala naman sa studio, asahan mo si Ivan na nasa field upang maghatid ng pinakamaiinit na balita sa ating mga manonood,” Atty. Gozon said in his video message. “Ivan, I am both proud and happy that you remain a loyal Kapuso for 25 years and counting. I look forward to having you with us for a very long time. Congratulations!” he added.

Duavit, in turn, expressed the Network’s profound gratitude, stating that Mayrina has been an integral part of GMA’s success for a quarter of a century.
“Sa katapatan ng paglilingkod, ikaw, sa pananaw ko, ay isang tunay, tapat, at haligi ng Serbisyong Totoo. Isang ehemplo na magpapatuloy na magbibigay-sigla at inspirasyon sa mga katulad mong media practitioner. Ivan, you come and bring us so much pride and happiness. Maraming salamat sa patuloy mong tiwala. You are a credit to all of us,” said Duavit.
Amoroso, likewise, underscored Ivan’s more than two decades of loyalty as a Kapuso.
“Today, as you sign your renewal of contract, we celebrate your amazing 25-year journey with GMA Network, especially with the TV media. Your commitment to truthful reporting as our senior news producer in Integrated News and your role as anchor of 24 Oras Weekend made a significant impact on broadcast journalism. As you embark on this new chapter with us, may you continue to inspire others and elevate the standards of journalism. Maraming salamat sa hard work na pinakita mo sa amin, lalo na sa ating viewers at readers,” he said.
Ivan is grateful to his home network, where he spent “more than half of my life.”
“Much has been said about the journalism that GMA stands for. But what many people don’t see is our value: that our people are our greatest assets. And I am happy to say that I am on the receiving end of that value from GMA. Nakita ko how GMA has taken care of me, has led me through this wonderful journey in the last 25 years — from one story to another, day after day, inalagaan ako.”
“And now I am signing this contract and being told that my work has been appreciated for all these years. I mean, what more can one ask for? Twenty-five years, we talk about 25 more. Honestly, with how I’ve been treated by GMA, I don’t see myself being anywhere else. Makakaasa kayo na kung ano man ‘yung ikinatuwa ninyo in the last 25 years, we’ll have more of that. GMA will continue to stand sa journalism na wasto, patas, balansyado [balanse], kapaki-pakinabang. And what’s more important now na GMA Integrated News na tayo, more than the traditional media na nakasanayan nila — napapanood tayo sa telebisyon, naririnig sa radyo — we will even go further. We will go where they are, kung nasaan ang audience natin. Susundan natin ang kanilang nagbabagong patterns, their new habits, their new preferences, para patuloy natin maihatid ang brand of journalism that GMA stands for. My profound thanks to the officers of GMA for this opportunity to be a soldier in this mission na maghatid ng Serbisyong Totoo,” Ivan added.
A recipient of various awards, Ivan has been recognized multiple times for his exemplary talent as a news anchor by various local award-giving bodies such as the Golden Laurel Awards, GEMS-Hiyas ng Sining Awards, Gawad Tanglaw, the EdukCircle Awards, the PMPC Star Awards for Television, the Gandingan Awards, and Paragala Awards.
In 2024, Ivan received the Media Excellence in TV News Reporting award at the 2nd Laurus Nobilis Media Excellence Awards and was named an Outstanding TV Reporter by the Volunteers Against Crime and Corruption Awards in 2010.
He was lauded as one of the “Men Who Matter” by People Asia magazine (2010), a “Pillar of Hope” for Media Broadcasting by Eton International School in 2017, and as a “Bayaning Pilipino” by the Gawad Filipino Awards in 2020. For more stories about the Kapuso Network, visit www.GMANetwork.com.
