Anime compilation films often get dismissed as forgettable recaps, but ‘Jujutsu Kaisen: Hidden Inventory / Premature Death – The Movie’ proves to be a rare exception.

Seamlessly woven together and elevated by its animation and emotional weight, this adaptation of the ‘Gojo’s Past Arc’ is both a cinematic spectacle and an essential story for longtime fans.
At its core, the film tells the backstory of Satoru Gojo and Suguru Geto, two sorcerers whose once unshakable bond unravels after a mission that pushes their strength and convictions to the limit. Tasked with protecting the Star Plasma Vessel, Riko Amanai, the duo faces mercenaries, assassins, and a formidable rival in Toji Fushiguro. Their battles, particularly Gojo’s awe-inspiring clash with Toji, are nothing short of breathtaking, with fluid choreography and visual grandeur best experienced on the big screen.

Yet the true weight of the film lies not in the fights, but in the moral and emotional fractures it reveals. Gojo, charismatic and unstoppable, grows into the “strongest” sorcerer we know. Geto, meanwhile, faces an ethical dilemma that ultimately sets him down the tragic path from hero to villain. Their diverging ideals, born from the trauma of this mission, make the story as devastating as it is riveting.
The film avoids the pitfalls of typical recap movies. Instead of feeling like stitched-together episodes, its pacing is deliberate and cohesive, inviting viewers into a single, standalone narrative.

A playful new ‘Juju Stroll’ opens the movie with humor, while the closing montage—set to an acoustic rendition of ‘Ao no Sumika’—delivers a gut punch of bittersweet nostalgia, reminding fans of the fleeting joy once shared by Gojo, Geto, and their classmates.
Though it doesn’t add much new material beyond these touches, ‘Hidden Inventory / Premature Death’ succeeds in intensifying what fans already loved about the arc. The heartbreak, the betrayals, and the bond between Gojo and Geto all resonate more deeply in this format.

Rated R-13 by the MTRCB, the film is a faithful, emotional retelling that highlights why ‘Jujutsu Kaisen’ has captivated audiences worldwide. Whether you’re a longtime manga reader or anime-only fan, seeing this pivotal story unfold on the big screen is an experience that’s equal parts exhilarating and heartbreaking.
