Epson Philippines Drives Local Sustainability Initiatives with Tangible Impact

Epson Philippines Corporation (EPC) is turning global sustainability commitments into real-world benefits for local communities through everyday actions that make a difference, according to the latest Epson Southeast Asia Sustainability Report released recently.

The company’s Corporate Waste Collection Program stands out as a practical example of sustainability in action. By collecting used ink cartridges, bottles, and packaging materials from customers, Epson transforms these materials into useful items like school chairs, tables, bricks, lamps, and waste bins. This approach keeps waste out of landfills while creating resources that directly benefit Philippine schools and communities.

“For us in Epson Philippines, sustainability is something we practice step by step,” said Masako Kusama, President and Director of Epson Philippines Corporation. “We start in our own offices, we include our employees, and we work with our customers. When we collect used cartridges or reduce plastic in our daily work, it may look small, but it makes a difference. If we all continue, together it becomes something bigger for the community and for the environment.”

These localized efforts support Epson’s goal to become carbon-negative and underground-resource free by 2050. Internally, EPC has improved waste sorting practices and partnered with vendors who properly handle recyclable materials. Employees receive regular training to understand how their everyday actions help reach these goals.

The company has made substantial progress toward cutting out single-use plastics by FY2025. In Philippine offices, bottled water has already been removed from pantries, and plastic cutlery and straws have been eliminated from office kitchens. These changes help employees think about reducing plastic in their own lives too.

Epson Philippines extends its efforts beyond its corporate walls through community education. In 2024, the company hosted sustainability workshops as part of a regional series that brought together over 1,100 participants across six Southeast Asian countries. These sessions helped partners, employees, and young professionals learn practical ways to reduce waste in daily life.

These local actions contribute to wider achievements across Southeast Asia. The region achieved an 11% reduction in electricity use compared to last year, avoided 664 tons of carbon emissions through better shipping routes, and collected 1,417 kilograms of plastic waste with help from partner organizations.

“Our ‘Engineered for Good’ approach connects our tradition of innovation with responsibility to the environment,” added Kusama. “We invite our customers, partners, and communities to join us in creating better habits that help both people and the environment.”

Businesses and consumers interested in learning more about the company’s sustainability efforts can visit Epson
Philippines’ Sustainability page or download the Epson SEA FY24 Sustainability Report.
