Nicanor Reyes Street, named after the founder of Far Eastern University (FEU), has been declared a “School Zone” by the City of Manila.

“This is a [significant milestone] in our continuous and untiring pursuit of improving the safety and security [at] FEU, specifically Nicanor Reyes Street,” said Edward R. Kilakiga, the university’s vice president for Facilities and Technical Services.
Kilakiga added that FEU, through his office, would coordinate closely with Manila.
“By designating Nicanor Reyes Street as a school zone, it will most likely enhance the safety of pedestrians, especially students, by reducing the likelihood and severity of accidents [on the street] which has a high volume of foot traffic associated with school-related activities,” said Councilor Louisa Marie J. Quintos-Tan, one of the principal authors of the ordinance.
Ordinance No. 9132 covers the stretch along both lanes of Nicanor Reyes St. in Sampaloc.
“Installation of safety measures,” the ordinance states, includes “[placing of ‘School Zone’, ‘Slow Down’, ‘Adhere to Speed Limit’ signs, and adjusting the number of seconds allotted for pedestrians crossing].”
“[Manila Traffic and Parking Bureau, Department of Engineering, and FEU are responsible for its monitoring and execution],” the ordinance adds.
Councilor Raymundo R. Yupangco, the majority floor leader, is co-author of the ordinance.
