Comedy Queen AiAi delas Alas revealed that she nearly lost her life after suffering a severe asthma attack on Christmas Eve, triggered by nonstop coughing that left her struggling to breathe.

The veteran actress shared the frightening experience through an Instagram post on Monday, where she uploaded a photo of herself wearing a pink gym outfit taken shortly after the health scare. Despite how well she looked in the photo, AiAi said she had just gone through what she described as a “malalang ubo at asthma” attack that lasted for almost an entire day.
“Parang hindi ako nasalanta ng malalang ubo at asthma,” AiAi wrote in her caption. She expressed gratitude for maintaining a healthy lifestyle, saying her regular workouts likely helped her recover faster. “Nagpapasalamat ako na naging ganito ang lifestyle ko at nag-gym ako. Kung hindi, the late Martina Eileen na ako—Paskong-Pasko pa naman.”
According to AiAi, the coughing started on December 24 and continued nonstop throughout the day and night. At one point, she said she could barely breathe and even prayed for her life.
“Sabi ko, ‘Lord, huwag muna ako kunin ngayon, Paskong-Pasko,’” she recalled.
The actress said she eventually recovered after receiving proper medication from her pulmonologist, Dr. Ayuyao. She added that it was the first time she experienced such an intense coughing episode and vowed to take even better care of her health moving forward.
“’Di na mauulit ‘yun. Super magpapalakas pa ako ng katawan. To God all the glory and honor,” she wrote.
AiAi spent Christmas in the Philippines with her son Andrei. Her other children—Sancho and his wife in Canada, daughter Sophia, and son Nicolo in Los Angeles—were overseas during the holidays.
The health scare comes shortly after AiAi made headlines for selling her wedding and engagement rings to Boss Toyo on the show ‘Pinoy Pawnstars’, calling it part of her healing and closure following her separation from ex-husband Gerald Sibayan.
AiAi sold the rings for ₱250,000, saying the proceeds would go to the cancer-support organization Life Saver. She previously shared that she lost her wedding ring three times, with Sibayan replacing it each time—something she later saw as a sign.
In earlier interviews, AiAi confirmed that she and Sibayan separated after a decade-long relationship, citing issues including infidelity and his desire to have children—something she could no longer naturally conceive at her age. She also revealed that they attempted in vitro fertilization but lost two out of three embryos.
