Gerald Anderson has finally broken his silence on the growing speculation about a possible “reconnection” with his former on-screen and real-life partner Kim Chiu, after the two unexpectedly crossed paths at the Star Magic Loyalty Awards.

Gerald and Kim—once known as the hugely popular love team “Kimerald”—were both honored during the event. Their brief interaction quickly sparked nostalgia among fans, with some openly hoping for a rekindling of their relationship.
But when asked directly during the media conference for his MMFF 2025 entry ‘Rekonek’ whether a real-life reconnection with Kim was possible, Gerald gave a grounded and guarded response.
“Kontrolado ko ang buhay ko. Hindi ko kontrolado ang opinyon ninyo, opinyon ng ibang tao.”
“I don’t know if you can call it reconnection, but just think of it this way: I wouldn’t be standing here if not for the supporters who have been with me through everything—good or bad.”
Despite the renewed “Kimerald” buzz, a reunion seems unlikely. Kim earlier remarked that she has not forgotten the heartbreak she experienced during their past relationship, hinting that reconciliation is not on the horizon.
Reflecting on his past relationships—including high-profile romances with Maja Salvador, Bea Alonzo, and Julia Barretto—Gerald said every experience shaped who he is today.
“May mga tao na darating sa buhay natin para turuan tayo ng leksiyon… Minsan hindi na natin kasama moving forward, but I appreciate every moment.”
He added that not all goodbyes are bitter: “Puwedeng pangit yung paghihiwalay, pero laging may self-reflection. Hindi laging puwede na siya ang mali. There’s a lesson there.”
Gerald also took a firm stance on the spread of fake news, noting that some reports about him are “painful” and misleading.
“Maraming fake news. Maraming naniniwala sa kung anu-ano. Kayo, may responsibilidad kayo. Your voice is a shield against misinformation.”
He stressed the dangers of false reporting, especially when lives and livelihoods—not just celebrity love lives—are involved.
Gerald is also celebrating a career milestone as both lead actor and co-producer of Rekonek, which made it to the coveted MMFF 2025 lineup.
“Malaking privilege. Almost 50 films submitted, walo lang ang nakapasok.”
The film explores a nationwide internet blackout and how people are forced to reconnect with loved ones—and with themselves—without online distractions.
Gerald shared that his personal form of reconnection often involves hiking to places with no cellphone signal.
“Umaakyat ako ng bundok para walang signal—para hindi ko makita ang mga sinusulat niyo,” he joked, before turning serious: “When you’re so busy achieving things, you need to pause and assess your life.”

For him, the holiday season is the perfect time to reflect: “Saan ako nagkamali? Ano yung tama na ginawa ko? When you reconnect with yourself, everything becomes clearer.”
‘Rekonek’ opens in cinemas on December 25, 2025. Starring Gerald Anderson with an all-star ensemble featuring Mavy and Cassy Legaspi, Andrea Brillantes, Charlie Dizon, Gloria Diaz, Carmina Villarroel, Kokoy de Santos, Kelvin Miranda, and more, Rekonek is directed by Jade Castro.
