Veteran television host and comedian Joey de Leon recently drew attention after making a remark on ‘Eat Bulaga’ that netizens believe was a subtle jab at actor Anjo Yllana.

During the show’s special holiday segment ‘Dabarkads Ninong, Ninang,’ hosts gave prizes to selected audience members, including cash, assorted gifts, and a personal item from the day’s “ninong” or “ninang.”
Known not only as a comedian but also as a visual artist, de Leon chose to include one of his paintings as part of his giveaway.
Viewers took notice when de Leon jokingly reminded the recipient not to sell the artwork to social media personality Boss Toyo, who is known for purchasing celebrity memorabilia on his online show. While the comment was delivered lightly and drew laughter from the audience, it quickly fueled speculation online.
The remark resurfaced memories of a recent controversy involving Yllana, who previously sold a painting gifted to him by de Leon to Boss Toyo. Longtime showbiz observers note that de Leon does not sell his artworks and typically gives them only as personal gifts to friends and acquaintances.
Although de Leon did not name Yllana nor elaborate on his conversation with Boss Toyo, some netizens interpreted the comment as a sign of disappointment over the sale of the gifted artwork. Others, however, viewed it as harmless humor consistent with de Leon’s on-air style.
As of writing, neither Yllana nor Boss Toyo has issued a statement addressing the renewed speculation.
