From workshop to workforce: MMPC commits to training students to bridge employment gap

Commission on Higher Education (CHED) Chair Shirley Agrupis recently called for all universities to integrate on-the-job training (OJT) into their degree programs, emphasizing the need for students to be ready for the workforce and bridge the needs of the labor market.

Representatives of MMPC, state universities, and dealer partners gather for the contract signing.

Sharing the same vision, Mitsubishi Motors Philippines Corporation (MMPC) strengthened its commitment to preparing students for the workforce by inking a deal with key state universities and dealer partners for their technical training program. This aims to empower students and communities and strengthen Mitsubishi’s nationwide labor pool through innovation and collaboration.

The contract signing ceremony, held at the MMPC Training Center in Santa Rosa, Laguna last September, brought together representatives from MMPC, Laguna State Polytechnic University – San Pablo, Laguna, Don Mariano Marcos Memorial State University – San Fernando, La Union, Laguna State Polytechnic University – Santa Cruz, Laguna, and vehicle dealers Mizukawa Motors Corporation, Motorplaza, Inc., and JABEZ Motor Corporation.

Students undergo MMPC’s technical training program where they get to learn more and apply their knowledge.

Through this program, students undergo an intensive, three-month technical training at MMPC, with all expenses paid. Aside from lodging, meals, and transportation, students are also provided with allowances, uniforms, and shoes.

The training allows them to have a hands-on, on-the-job experience at a partner Mitsubishi dealership to apply their new skills in a real-world service environment. The students then proceed with an advanced technical training on engine, chassis, and Mitsubishi Quick Service (MQS).

The first batch of students underwent the program from September to December 2025. A second batch of students will be deployed at a partner Mitsubishi dealership from January to March 2026.

In addition, MMPC donated training vehicles to the universities for educational purposes and committed to providing continuous technical training for their faculty and professors, which highlights the company’s dedication to empowering the next generation of workforce. MMPC also facilitated an exclusive plant tour for students, faculty members, and dealer staff for an inside look at its operations.

ā€œMore than building cars, we build careers,ā€ said MMPC Chairman Noriaki Hirakata. ā€œWe are proud that we have produced talented students from this training program, where their passion has and will always be the driving force of tomorrow.ā€
