The microinsurance arm of the Palawan Group of Companies, Palawan ProtekTODO, has partnered with Liberty Insurance to launch ProtekTODO Fire 99, an affordable insurance product designed to help Filipino families recover from fire-related losses.

Launched in time for Fire Prevention Month, the microinsurance offering provides financial assistance for residential properties damaged by fire as well as benefits for accidental death.
For only P99, policyholders can receive up to P30,000 in fire cash assistance and P10,000 in accidental death coverage, providing a low-cost safety net for families vulnerable to fire-related disasters.
During a recent media briefing, Lisa Castro-Sabado, Chief Business Development Officer of the Palawan Group, said the initiative aims to strengthen public awareness about fire prevention while encouraging financial preparedness.
“Fire can change everything a family has worked for in an instant,” Castro-Sabado said. “It can take away their home, their belongings, and the sense of security they spent years building. Through ProtekTODO Fire 99, families can rely on support to help them recover and rebuild.”

She also pointed out that insurance coverage in the Philippines remains low.
According to the Insurance Commission, the country’s insurance penetration rate stood at 1.79 percent as of mid-2025, leaving millions of Filipinos financially vulnerable when faced with illness or disasters.
“For many Filipinos, insurance still feels intimidating—too complicated and too expensive,” Castro-Sabado explained. “That’s the gap we want to address.”
Authorities continue to warn that fire incidents remain a persistent threat to communities.
Data from the Bureau of Fire Protection shows that thousands of fire incidents are recorded each year in urban areas. In Metro Manila alone, 2,699 fire incidents were reported from January to February 2026, with common causes including faulty electrical connections, smoking, and cooking with open flames.
Gladwin Abram So, fire marshal of the Association of Volunteer Fire Chiefs and Firefighters of the Philippines Inc., stressed that improving public awareness is key to preventing many of these incidents.
He noted that issues such as faulty electrical connections and unattended appliances are among the most common causes of fires—problems that can often be avoided if households follow basic safety measures.
Since 2022, Palawan ProtekTODO’s fire cash assistance programs have already supported more than 7,000 Filipino families affected by fire disasters.
According to Bernard Kaibigan, Chief Marketing Officer of the Palawan Group, the new product was designed to make insurance simpler and more accessible.
“We believe every Filipino family deserves protection and peace of mind,” Kaibigan said. “With ProtekTODO Fire 99, we want to ensure that when crisis strikes, families have a safety net that helps them recover.”
ProtekTODO Fire 99 is available at Palawan Pawnshop–Palawan Express Pera Padala branches nationwide, as well as online through the PalawanPay, Lazada, and Shopee.
