  • Knowledge Channel airs “Class Project Winners Festival” featuring Top Student Documentaries
  • Don’t miss Knowledge Channel’s “Class Project Winners Festival” featuring the ten finalists of the “Class Project Intercollegiate Mini-Documentary Competition” starting Friday (April 6) at 7:30 pm on cable or ABS-CBN TVplus.

The best student documentaries that won in the “Class Project Intercollegiate Mini-Documentary Competition” will air on Knowledge Channel this April starting on Friday (April 6) at 7:30 pm.

De La Salle University-Dasmarinas’ “Lupang Pinangako: Mga Rizalista ng Ronggot,” a documentary on a community of devout believers of Jose Rizal as a deity, banners the first ever “Class Project Winners Festival” on the educational channel after winning first place in the competition. It will air on Friday (April 6) together with second-placer “Basilica” from the Lyceum of the Philippines University (LPU) Laguna that focused on the controversies surrounding the national historical shrine Taal Basilica.

Third-placer Southville International School and Colleges’ “Manila Sound: Sunshine of the 70’s,” meanwhile, will air on April 13. It tackles the rise of original Pilipino music (OPM) during the Martial Law era.

Knowledge Channel will also air the entries of the seven other finalists namely “Escolta Redux” from the University of Santo Tomas on April 13, “Usapang Balangay” from UST on April 20, “KUPKOP” from Leyte Normal University on April 20, “tSuper” from UST-Angelicum College, Inc. on April 27, “Gulong” from Batangas State University Lipa Campus on April 27 as well, “Project: Pribyu” from De La Salle University Lipa on May 4, and “SERVEvivors” from Batangas State University Lipa, also on May 4.

Launched last August 2017 by ABS-CBN, Knowledge Channel, and the Philippine Association of Communication Educators Foundation, Inc. (PACE), the “Class Project” documentary competition aims to give students a chance to hone their professional filmmaking skills and have their documentaries showcased to a wider audience.

In line with this, ABS-CBN News held documentary caravans last year at the University of Santo Tomas and the Holy Angel University in Pampanga, where acclaimed reporter Jeff Canoy was able to share with students his knowledge and experiences in making powerful documentaries such as “Di Ka Pasisiil” on the Marawi siege.

ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communications head Kane Errol Choa, PACE president Rowena Capulong Reyes, Knowledge Channel head Danie Sedilla, and ABS-CBN Current Affairs production unit head Carmina Reyes award the 1st place trophy to DLSU-Dasmarinas for the entry “Lupang Pangako”

The competition culminated at the ABS-CBN’s “Pinoy Media Congress Year 12” at the College of the Holy Spirit Manila (CHSM) where the ten finalists and top three winners were recognized and awarded.

The “Pinoy Media Congress” is a project of ABS-CBN and PACE that gathers communication students and faculty from all over the Philippines for two days of talks and discussions on important issues on media featuring notable media practitioners and subject matter experts. Now on its 12th year, the project aims to help prepare the next generation of mass communicators for the field they are about to enter.

ABS-CBN Integrated Corporate Communications head Kane Errol Choa awards the 2nd place trophy to LPU-Laguna for the entry “Basilica”

Over 1,200 delegates from 55 schools participated this year in CHSM and in Visayas, where an interactive live broadcast of the event was done at the Cebu Technological University. Students were also given the opportunity to participate in the Ricky Lee Scriptwriting Workshop and the “Bayan Mo, iPatrol Mo” citizen journalism and media literacy workshop, watch the film screening of restored classics like “May Minamahal” and “Oro, Plata, Mata,” or tour the studios of ABS-CBN.

Knowledge Channel head Danie Sedilla, and ABS-CBN Current Affairs production unit head Carmina Reyes award the 3rd place trophy to Southville International School and Colleges for the entry “Manila Sound”
