- A certain person warned the producer that Jessy is a ‘jinx’, but he chose to ignore the perception about the female star.
Jessy Mendiola has a new movie with Jericho Rosales titled The Girl in the Orange Dress.
The movie is Quantum Films, Star Cinema and MJM Productions’ entry to the 2018 Metro Manila Film Festival.
It has been two years since the female Kapamilya star was given a big project such as this. During the movie’s press conference at the TYO’s Kitchen, Tomas Morato, Quezon City on December 4, Mendiola mentioned that she was already planning to quit showbiz.
If not for the role offered by director Jay Abello and Quantum producer Atty. Jojie Alonso, the actress would’ve left showbiz for good.
According to Alonso, they had a hard time deciding on the final list of cast members. She said, “Ang hirap mag-cast nu’ng lead ng material na ‘to kasi naghahanap kami ng certain combination of innocence and sensuality.
“‘Yun bang hindi malaswa na kahit sensuality, a certain kick but at the same time mag-exude pa rin siya ng innocence.
“So, we were considering several actors who would be willing, who might be considered for the film and merong isang artista na kapag siya ang kinast parang na-rape.”
They eventually came up with a final decision to put Jessy and Jericho in the lead role. The Quantum producer continued that somebody warned her not to take Mendiola because she is a jinx.
The producer knew that Jessy is the perfect face and star for the role so she ignored the warning.
“When I worked with a certain artist before, ang sabi sa akin, ‘wag mo siyang kunin kasi jinx siya sa pelikula.’ And hindi naman ganu’n ‘yung nangyari.
“So, sa akin I’ve always done films kung minsan I made mistakes, I don’t succeed, but I wanna stand with a decision that is made and I really thought that Jessy was perfect for the role and if this film somehow will help her, I would be the happiest person in the world.”
Jessy Mendiola was teary-eyed hearing these words from Atty. Jojie Alonso.
The Girl in the Orange Dress will be available in cinemas on December 25. Other cast members include Ria Atayde, Sheena Halili, Hannah Ledesma, Nico Antonio, Via Antonio, Cai Cortez, and Juan Miguel Severo.
