GMA Network is currently working on a new Sunday variety show that will replace Sunday Pinasaya.
After four years on air, Sunday Pinasaya is set to have its final episode on December 22, 2019.
APT Entertainment, Sunday Pinasaya‘s producer will end its contract in December thus the need for GMA to come up with its own Sunday variety show.
Although there are rumors circulating that the Kapuso Saturday musical show Studio 7 will change timeslot to go against ASAP, GMA network denied this and said that a whole new show will replace Sunday Pinasaya. Studio 7 meanwhile is also said to be ending as some of its main hosts will be joining the new Sunday afternoon program.
Sunday Pinasaya will be the latest ASAP rival that will go off the air.
In its almost 25 years on TV, ASAP has outlasted several GMA musical variety shows that were pitted against it.
In 1997, ASAP outlived GMA’s longest-running Sunday variety show at that time, GMA Supershow. It was then replaced by SOP (Sobrang Ok Pare). SOP was ASAP’s worthy competitor for some time since it was able to beat the latter in terms of TV ratings at times. But the show wasn’t able to match ASAP’s endurance since it ended after 13 years on air.
After SOP, GMA gambled with Party Pilipinas which didn’t last long as it bid farewell after just three years.
Sunday All Stars came next but it was still not successful in toppling ASAP. Sunday All Stars ended its run after two years.
With the exit of Sunday Pinasaya, it will be the 5th GMA Sunday afternoon variety show that was silenced by ABS-CBN’s ASAP.
